Methodology to conduct LCDC in Districts:
➢ Formation of Various Committee at State, District and Block level.
➢ Training to all Health functionaries from District to Village Level.
➢ Selection of searchers (Male & Female) and Training.
➢ House to House Active Search by Male and Female Field workers
➢ Intensive IEC activities three days prior to survey programme and during the survey programme also.
➢ Supervision and Case confirmation by the Block Medical Officers, PHC Medical Officers and Identified field supervisors.
➢ Scheduled meetings with community Leaders to resolve any issue during the campaign.
➢ Systematic collection and compilation of reports.
➢ Prompt analysis and feedback on Data received. State Co-ordination committee meeting, State Leprosy awareness to Media committee, District coordination committee meeting / Training and Block coordination committee meeting / Training have to be arranged and conducted as per the guidelines issued by Central Leprosy Division, New Delhi.
Area of Coverage In Rural Areas The whole block should be covered. Importance to be given to underserved population like brickkiln workers, Construction workers, Beedi, Match box and Agarbathi Workers etc. Services of the Panchayat Leaders, Self Help Groups (Men and Women), Youth Associations, Political Leaders, Volunteers, Link Leaders etc. to be utilized.
Intensive Survey (LCDC) Intensive survey should be carried out during the 14 days campaign. All the households must be examined thoroughly.
❖ During House-to-house survey no house should be left out
❖ Enter each house, greet the respondent politely, introduce yourself and explain the purpose of your visit.
❖ Enter the date, searcher’s name and address, name of the block, name of the PHC and the street / ward name and other particulars correctly in the Daily Tally Sheet (கணக்ககடுப்புபடிவம்).
❖ Before moving to the next house make sure that you have examined every person in the household. If all are examined put a ‘’L’’ mark with Date in the survey sheet and house door also.
❖ If any person is unexamined during the first visit put a ‘’X’’ mark in the survey sheet with date and house door also. The unexamined persons in the locked houses should be revisit and examined in the evening or by the following days.
❖ Suspect definition has to be followed during Active search.
The case definition to be followed for suspect identification in the field is
‘’Any person with” o Discoloration of skin / thickened / Shiny o Oily skin / Nodules o Inability to close eyes o Ulceration in hands / feet o Clawing of fingers / foot drop o Informs tingling / numbness in hands / feet o Loss of sensation in palms / soles / Inability to feel cold or hot objects / weakness in hands / feet for holding chappals
